Plants vs. Zombies Heroes (abbreviated as PvZH or PvZ Heroes) is a collectible mobile card game announced on March 10, 2016, through PopCap Games' official YouTube channel and soft released in certain countries on the same day.

From the makers of Plants vs. Zombies 2 and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 comes the next great game in the epic battle between doom and bloom – Plants vs. Zombies Heroes. Collect Heroes with outrageous and incredible superpowers and build your ultimate battle team. Embark on a journey to discover new characters, and confront mighty opponents along the way. And, for the first time ever on mobile, play as either plants or zombies. It’s the lawn of a new battle!

Each Hero’s selection of super powers will help determine your team’s winning strategy.

FORM YOUR TEAM
Every Hero needs a crew. Build yours and diversify your skills by collecting teammates – from the PvZ characters you know and love, to daring new plants and zombies. There are hundreds to discover! Devise distinct strategies for your Hero by selecting compatible teammates and experiment with devastating combos. On its face, PvZ Heroes plays like a lot of collectible card games (CCGs), like Hearthstone or Magic: The Gathering. In every game, a zombie player and a plant player use custom decks to face off on a five-lane battlefield. Every turn, each player receives an increasing amount of points to play cards on the field, with the ultimate goal being to deal enough damage to your enemy to win. It seems to be doing more of the same by offering up a Hearthstone-like card game experience, but unlike many other CCGs that have tried following the leader, Plants vs. Zombies Heroes brings a number of its own ideas to the table while retaining the distinctive aesthetic of the PvZ franchise.

The game is played on five lanes. Three on the ground, on the lawn, or whatever you have. To the right of these is a waterway; to the left is a roof driveway. Some cards will be rewarded based on where you place them, and if they are dropped into the water or placed on the roof, they will gain buffs or special abilities. Cards can also be "teamed up", if they have this ability, special rewards can be given, or stronger cards can be used to protect weaker cards in the back. Some of the weaker cards have no offensive value, but will provide healing or additional lottery points, so they are worth protecting. What's really clever is that you can play as a plant or a zombie. Each side has many unlockable heroes for you to play. Each hero has its own deck advantage, and the two sides play different ways.

Heroes are the main playable characters in Plants vs. Zombies: Heroes, and the ones required to be defeated so the game can end.Heroes have unique Superpowers and Classes, the latter of which determines which cards they can play, making each one different from the others. This differentiation between heroes is what really makes PvZ Heroes stand out. Depending on which hero and side (plant or zombie) you choose, your card options, available synergies, powers, and even the phases of your turn will vary. The cards consist of nearly every plant and zombie you’ve ever seen in a Plants vs. Zombies title to date, along with many more making their debuts here. The designers deserve a lot of credit for being able to dream up so many more memorable additions, and a lot of effort clearly went into details like their animations, sound effects and flavor text.

Maybe I’m just a sucker for card games from familiar IPs, but I don’t think that’s it. What it does have is a sparkling charm and a massive amount of content. The great jazzy music; the superhero comic book animations when your hero uses their special power; all the sound effects and the crisp, cartoony graphics. It all adds up to make the overall experience really great. That you're not bombarded with ads or constantly told to buy gems makes it even more pleasant, especially for a mobile game.
