The game is an open-world action RPG based in Westeros. When you make a bespoke character—designed as the bastard son of House Tyre—you roam classic areas like King's Landing, Winterfell and The Wall. You’ll choose from one of three classes: Knight (balanced/tanky), Sellsword (versatile, heavy weapons) or Assassin(quick dual daggers/stealth); each with different skill trees and combat styles. Then combat. The units in this list are for real-time, manual action combat with light/heavy attacks, dodging, blocking & parrying and class skills. Then exploration and quests. Story focusing on a premise set between Seasons 4–5 of the TV series, while also completing main and side quests, gathering resources for upgrades of your personal stronghold/estate. Finally, co-op and multiplayer. Partner with other players to choose expeditions and boss fights; join guilds/alliances for content in groups.

Game of Thrones Kingsroad is one such series and comes at an important time, allowing fans of the franchise to return to Westeros or come for their first taste through a modern action RPG. This massive multiplayer online role playing game, based on the hit fantasy series created by George R.R. Martin and HBO, is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 at Netmarble and ensures to an exciting journey across the Seven Kingdoms! But, as successful at everything else it manages to achieve in recreating the sights and sounds of the source material's visual flair is ultimately stunted by its reliance on predatory monetization systems that will push away more than a few fans.
The main value of Game of Thrones Kingsroad is its presentation and setting. It is a gorgeous looking game visually. Unreal Engine 5 is used here, allowing for stunning environments from sun-kissed King's Landing to the frozen tundras beyond the Wall. The developers have created a seamless open world, alive and breathing with the player hunting for its resources. Especially for the show’s fans, one of the big attractions is how well it recreates iconic locations.
The story setup allows for a new spin on the established lore. You take on the role of a bastard from one of the lesser noble houses, trying to redeem his family's honor during this tumultuous time before The Long Night hits. This original, parallel storyline within the plot of later seasons is a great hook. The class system, made up of Mercenary, Knight and Assassin classes which would dwindle the combat down if there was no variety between playstyle to keep things interesting. Mobile brings full controller support and a PC release through Steam also helps broaden its accessibility, which gives the RPG mechanics weight when played on any platform.
But at the end of this high level production is actually a very exploitative monetization. The game is free-to-play but it offers up an obnoxious range of micro transactions. Furthermore, the community has been very vocal about criticizing both Halo and Call of Duty's pricing structure, including the battle pass which can reach a price northwards of thirty dollars. It breaks the role-playing game progression that is critical to the genre with this pay-to-win model. Players should feel like heroes battling their way to greatness on ability and exploration, not be constantly reminded they could just pay for power. So much in-game purchases are a bricks wall between the player and getting to enjoy its story, it does leave an sour aftertaste that pretty graphics can only partially clear up.
So after all, Game of Thrones Kingsroad is a game of two halves. It delivers on the immersive, high-fidelity Westeros adventure fans have been after since the series began and wraps it in a spectacular visual package. This is very suitable for those who like massive multiplayer online role playing games, however, the incessant monetization looms so large that it is hard to give a recommended unreserved recommendation.
