After the events of the game Plants vs. Zombies where the player defeated Dr. Zomboss at the rooftop of the house, zombies once again attacked the front yard and after the zombies are all defeated, the player gets the hot sauce and gave it to Crazy Dave. Crazy Dave ate his taco, and wanting to eat the taco again, he wants to time-travel and the player is introduced to his partner, Penny, a supercar that can time travel. Unfortunately, they went back to Ancient Egypt, revealing that they time traveled 4500 years into the past. And the journey goes on!

Let's explain what's new in this sequel. First of all, the game is free. This means, of course, that you don't have to pay for the game, but it also means that the developers need to make money somehow. In this game, the developers leave the choice to you. It supports in-app purchasing of coins to utilize certain power-up abilities: Plant Food, a new power-up, allows plants to power up for varying amounts of time.

When given plant food, each plant has its own abilities. Players can complete the entire game without purchasing these abilities, some of which can be acquired throughout the game rather than purchased. Simply replay some levels to earn stars, and you'll have everything you need to unlock. Some of the better "classic" plants are only available for purchase, but you don't need to buy them to win the game.

Players can begin an optional tutorial that takes place in front of the player's house. After that, players travel to Ancient Egypt, where they can earn in-game world keys by completing Day 6 to unlock a series of additional period settings ("worlds"); this requires a certain number of stars earned in an early update. As players pass levels, they unlock new plants, each with advantages and unique enhancements. In addition, users can upgrade their plants using Seed Packets (found in-game or purchased with real money), allowing them to permanently enhance their abilities.

Naturally, there are also plenty of new characters, including the zombie-punching Bonk Choy that’s only good at close quarters and the Lightning Reed that can chain attacks between rows. Each plant now has a special power that you can unlock by giving them plant food. On the zombie front, the new theme inspires everything from sheriffs who can jump over plants to barrel-rolling pirates who can take out an entire strip of plants. These features certainly add an extra layer of strategy to the game.

I'm a huge fan of Plants vs. Zombies, and to be honest I was skeptical when I first heard about the game. But after killing zombies for a few hours, I'm happy to say that this game is as good, or even better than its predecessor. If you're also a fan of Plants vs. Zombies and like strategy games, I highly recommend it!
