Description

Batman: The Enemy Within is an episodic point-and-click graphic adventure video game developed and published by Telltale Games and distributed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment under its DC Entertainment label, based on the DC Comics character Batman.

In this latest chapter from the award-winning studio behind Batman - The Telltale Series, both Bruce Wayne and Batman will be forced into precarious new roles. The Riddler has returned to terrorize Gotham City, but his gruesome puzzles merely foreshadow an even greater crisis. With the arrival of a ruthless federal agent and the return of a still nascent Joker, Batman must navigate uneasy alliances while Bruce Wayne undertakes a perilous series of deceptions. Which of Batman’s new allies will you choose to trust? And how deep into the darkness will you let Bruce descend?

How to play

Like most Telltale games, the game features a similar episodic format found in other titles (such as Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Tales from the Borderlands). The player controls Bruce Wayne and his alter-ego Batman, with the game evenly split for both characters.

➤ The game features a branching narrative, similar to past Telltale games, giving the player options in approaching a situation and having that choice affect later events in the game.

➤ If the player had played the previous game, choices made, such as saving certain characters or stopping a criminal, may also be imported, though the game can be played as a standalone title.

➤ The game includes action sequences that are resolved similar to Telltale's other games, using quick time events. The series also includes investigation sequences, allowing the player to use Batman's detective skills to investigate areas.

➤ Sections of the game also present situations to the player where they may choose to approach Bruce Wayne or as Batman.

➤ Crowd Play, a feature implemented in the predecessor, also returns for The Enemy Within, allowing streamers to let their audience interact with their session with the game.

Like its predecessor, Batman: The Enemy Within uses a point-and-click gameplay style. Players mainly control Batman and his other self, Bruce Wayne, in the dialogue section, where they can choose dialogue or action. Players can control Batman or Bruce in a specific environment, where they can investigate and interact with the area. During this time, they must search for objects, talk to characters, or solve puzzles to continue the story. In some parts of it, Batman must investigate the crime scene to determine what happened and who was responsible. The battle is mainly composed of rapid events, requiring the player to press the right button within a limited time. Some of these failures will result in the death of the player.

Batman can also use this link system to plan encounters and decide how to destroy enemies and provide a variety of options. Throughout the game, Batman's choices either change the story or affect his relationship with other characters. These decisions will continue throughout the rest of the series, although players can replay the episode and change the outcome. After completing each episode, their decision will be compared with other players. The result will show how many players have also made a decision or adopted a different choice. At the end of the series, players will see the relationship between their Batman and other characters they have interacted with. In addition to this, the game also provides you with an outline of the main emotions you leave to the main character, whether it's loyalty, revenge, or another subtle choice.

The Enemy Within is set in the same Batman continuity introduced in Batman: The Telltale Series, which took place several years into Batman's career. Like the previous installment, the game is set during the mid-to-late 2010s in Gotham City, primarily the Batcave, Wayne Enterprises, and Gotham City Police Headquarters. The game also follows the events of the previous game, taking place between a couple of months to a year after these events. But it has improved in almost all aspects from the first season, the battle sequence has been strengthened, the expressiveness and voice lineup is strong, the relationship between Batman and the Joker is fascinating, and it has produced some unforgettable and heartbreaking moments. , The player’s choice before these moments feels very reasonable. In the middle chapters, some slower-paced plots dragged down the story and the game, but the powerful opening and ending plots finally created a must-play game for Batman fans and a solid for adventure gamers. The story makes players long for the arrival of the third season.
